We left Evanston at 7:30 Iowa time but an hour earlier for WY. We arrived in Salt Lake City at sunrise and had a chance to walk around the Temple Square. Everything was closed but got to see the impact the Mormons have made in that community. The grounds people we putting up Christmas lights and it was very beautiful. We learned that Morton Salt gets there salt from the Salt Lake in Utah. We drove by the plant. It was fancinating to view the Salt Lake and the salt in places where the lake was dry. From there we crossed the Salt Lake Desert which is about 60 miles wide.
We passed through more mountains. We first saw the mountains in Cheyenne WY and never were without them. I probably took to many mountain pictures but they are so interesting. Understand why the Rockies are the Rockies as most of what we saw today across Utah we barren until we got into NV, then they had sage and bushes on them. Just outside of Reno we ran into a river and finally saw a few trees again. The leaves are so pretty. I am not sure what kind of trees they are.
Stopped by the Salt Flats. We we drove up and thought maybe they were testing something as there were vans and cars on the flats plus a food truck set up with tables and chairs. When Roger asked, we found out they were shooting a car commercial. The people were from Boston. They came a long way for the shoot. Watch for it.
Thought instead of showing you more mountains. I would show you how we drive through the mountain. This is a smaller tunnel then what we went through yesterday. This is at Carlin NV. I also took pictures of coming out. The sun is very bright when you first leave the tunnel.
God has definately created an interesting world and I thank him often for allowing us to see it on this trip. No man could ever create such beauty and different scenery. Just can't share what this is like.
Thank you Ryla for helping set this blog up. It will also help when I scrapbook the entire vacation.
I'm so jealous... I remember our trip in 2006... This makes me want to just get in the car and follow you. We are having a great time with the little boy though.
ReplyDeleteCross country trips are the best! America really has the most beautiful and breathtaking scenery of any other country. Each state has so much to offer. Enjoy the mountains! I know you'll love Redding too. It's gorgeous there.
