Sequoia National Forrest-Kings Canyon

What a day this was. We left early to go to the Sequoia National Forrest. When we arrived the fog was just lifting and it had snowed. The roads were open but wet. Our main purpose in going was to see the Giant Sequoia trees.

This the first one we saw but far from the biggest. They often are over 300 feet tall and 24-40 feet across. They are anywhere from 1-4000 years old. The roots only go about 6 feet deep but spread out as far as 300 feet.

This slab was from a tree that shows it is 2100 years old because of the ring in the trunk and it also shows it has been burnt 80 times. It does not show as well in the picture because it was so wet from the snow. Hopefully you get an idea of the size of these threes.

There is a tree called the Grant tree which is very big around. The one called Sherman is the oldest living tree  in the world. We got to see them both.

Here we literally drove through the Sequoia trees. There was road work going on and we had an hour wait on the top of a mountain. The following picture is a view of the road work and cars that started up the one lane road. After they all got past us we got to go down. This almost made me sick as we traveled for 12 miles going back and forth down the mountain at 10 mph. Sooooooo many twists and turns and from a high elevation of over 7000 feet.

You are seeing a very short distance of our trip down the mountain. You could hike to Little Baldy which is 8044 feet but we chose not to do that. We were high enough.

It was some beautiful sights and information about the Sequoia's but I am glad we are back on flatland. The acres and acres of fruit fields we saw were really something too This is an amazing state and God is screaming "See ME" from so much of it. How can anyone doubt there is a God????
